We caught up with founder and drinks connoisseur Philippa to chat all things SpiritSmith - from inspiration to innovation.

What inspired you to start your business?

I’ve never understood why we give so differently to friends and family than we do to employees or clients. A gift is a way to show someone you value them, and all relationships need nurturing. There’s no better way to show someone you care than by sending a truly personal gift, with thought and meaning behind it.

A particular bugbear of mine? You give financial advisors all your personal details - your life goals, aspirations, even plans for your kids’ financial future - and then at Christmas they buy you a pen!

SpiritSmith was born to prove that corporate gifting can be better! 

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt so far on your journey? 

Consistency always wins - in quality, in service, and in your message.

What makes your business special?

What's your favourite product and why?

We love to personalise and create work anniversary gifts. 

Helping businesses show value to their loyal, long-service employees gives us joy. We've all had experiences in life where we have not been appreciated, and the impact can be so damaging for both the employee and the company. 

People-focused companies don't just make our day, they save a fortune in recruitment costs.

What’s the top piece of advice you would give to fellow small business owners? 

We've got this. We should all stand together, it's such a rollercoaster but the good days are worth the toil and trouble.

What’s the most memorable gift you’ve ever received?

We’re moving soon from a home we absolutely love but have started to outgrow. 

Knowing that leaving the house where we’ve raised both our kids will be tough, my sister-in-law gave me a framed watercolour of our home with the words, “Our First Family Home.” 

I cried when I opened it, and it will have pride of place in our new house. How thoughtful is that?!
